“I’m Michael Nevill and I’m the Clinical Director at NUPAS. NUPAS is one of the main providers of abortion in the UK. We are also strong supporters of improving our abortion law. As a nurse, this is hugely important to me and the patients my colleagues and I care for every day. Today, we – along with all other abortion providers in the UK – wrote to MPs to ask them to support Tonia Antoniazzi MP’s amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill. The change she’s proposing would remove women from the criminal law on abortion, stopping police investigations, arrests, and prosecutions of the most vulnerable of people.
We want to change all of abortion law, but it has to be done right and with the involvement of providers and clinicians to ensure that abortion care is protected and that’s why I am asking you to support the amendment from MP Tonia Antoniazzi.
As well as working for NUPAS, I am part of the Women’s Health Forum of the Royal College of Nursing. You may know that in the last year we’ve committed to fully support decriminalisation of abortion, and when the time comes for wholescale abortion law reform, I know that nurses will be at the forefront of that change. But as an abortion provider today, I’m asking MPs to listen to us as the people who care for women every day, and not to put the care we provide at risk.
Protect women. Protect abortion services. Support NC1″
